The goals of planning are accomplished through zoning. The Zoning Ordinance is a legal tool consisting of rules, adopted by ordinance, designed to control the physical character of development and use of the land in the Village. Zoning divides the Village into districts or zones. Within each district, particular uses and regulations are established relating to height, setbacks, open space, and other development standards.


Zoning requirements vary from district to district, but requirements within districts are uniform. Flexibility is built into the ordinance by allowing for the request of variations, special use permits, and map amendments, the process of which is established by state statute and local ordinance.
